Gateway to Excellence is a bold statement. It is through bold statements and bold measures that change is affected. By definition a gateway is a means of achieving a state or condition. In this reference the term gateway is representative of achieving a state or condition or portal through to excellence in Risk Management. In 1963 Bob Dylan wrote “the times they are a changin”. He was right in 1963 the times were changing, and forty-seven years later this phrase continues to resonate. It is through change that the Gateway to Excellence is opened. Change occurs when ideas are challenged and as a result they are refined or discarded. Only those ideas that can withstand informed criticism will survive.

Controversial, provocative, and celebrated, British-Indian writer Salman Rushdie, 63, is uniquely qualified to address the subject of risk. He has clashed with many political leaders - India's Indira Gandhi tried to sue him after the publication of his 1981 novel MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN, Pakistan's military dictator Zia ul-Haq banned Rushdie's work because of his novel 1983 SHAME, his 1988 novel THE SATANIC VERSES led to the fatwa, a death edict from Iran, and his 1995 novel THE MOOR'S LAST SIGH took on India's Hindu extremists.
